Join us for an in-conversation with Sarah Lamble to celebrate their new book Unsafe: The Carceral Roots of the Anti-Trans Backlash , an urgent discussion of transphobia in Britain and beyond. Twenty-first century ‘gender wars’ are based on the idea that safety can be achieved through exclusion, surveillance, and policing. However, Lamble argues that this approach to safety has distorted its meaning and contributed to the anti-trans backlash. Drawing on feminist and queer thinking, as well as their own experience organising against prisons and policing, Lamble provides a new view of safety, one based on collective care, radical solidarity, and transformative justice. Our Meet the Author series invites you to learn more about Britain’s queer history from those who are writing it. Each event features an in-conversation with the author, followed by a post-event book signing where you can meet them in person. You can purchase a copy of the book in our shop.
