About
An LGBTQ+ book club in SE London celebrating community, intersectionality and radical reading! Queers for Books is a relaxed book club where each month we vote on a book to read as a group where we will then meet to discuss it at our in-person meets at Corner, New Cross! 100% of ticket donation profits go to organiser Moss' top surgery fundraiser: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/moss-top-surgery-fundraiser?utm_term=k7Qk8DdWx&utm_medium=FA&utm_source=CL Reading the book is not essential but it does help! We like to have disucssions that use the books themes and characters as useful jumping off points to explore big questions the queer community face more broadly. Anyone can contribute to our discussions, we are safe and inclusive space, no disrespect for the opinions of others will be tolerated. The event runs 18:30-20:00 and we often venture to the pub afterwards of you wish to conintue the conversation. Our book choice for October is: Notes From a Queer Cripple - Andrew Gurza! Description for this book by Storygraph: "IHow can I enjoy my hot disabled body whilst dealing with internalised ableism? How can I best navigate my sex life with mobility issues or a carer? Why are queer spaces so inaccessible - and what can I do about it? Andrew Gurza is seriously hot. They're also seriously disabled. Having spent a lifetime navigating the bars, clubs and apps of the queer scene, they've learned a thing or two about sparking queer crip joy amidst the hellscape of ableism, microaggressions and 'pity sex'. With advice on everything from sexual autonomy and self-pleasure to date-prep and disability disclosure - this is both a self-care bible and an urgent call for the queer community to do better."
