Kseniia Kagarlitskaia: A conversation about queer political prisoners in Russia
17 October | 6.30pm | London Bridge
Language: English
Kseniia is a founder of the Freedom Zone @3ona_svobody project and human rights activist. Daughter of a sociologist and publicist Boris Kagarlitsky, who is serving a sentence in a Russian penal colony. She lives outside of Russia and works to provide international support to political prisoners: fundraising for their families, public events, festivals, and targeted assistances to people prosecuted by the state for their political stance.
About the talk
Kseniia will talk about queer political prisoners in Russia: how LGBTQIA+ people are turned into political prisoners, what happens to them within the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN), and why these cases often receive less attention than those involving more high-profile names.
Kseniia will explain how repression operates at the intersection of anti-war, civil rights, and queer activism; what effective forms of support are available from exile; and how Freedom Zone is already helping specific individuals and their loved ones.
Donations will go directly to the Freedom Zone that supports roughly 2,000 political prisoners incarcerated in Russia and aids their families.
