About

What songs helped you find yourself? Join DJ Jeffrey Hinton and artists Ian Giles and Gray Wielebinski for a special listening session exploring the role of music, club culture and visibility in shaping queer identity and experience. Inspired by Desert Island Discs , Jeffrey, Ian and Gray will each choose songs or artists that have played a part in their lives, from the music that first spoke to them as queer people to unexpected deep cuts and enduring pop icons. Drawing on Jeffrey Hinton’s decades at the heart of London’s queer club culture, alongside Gray Wielebinski and Ian Giles’ artistic practices exploring identity, desire, memory and queer histories, the conversation will move across generations and genres. Conceived by Ian in lieu of a traditional artist talk, the session expands on ideas explored in his exhibition and installation Everyone Involved . Giles will discuss his re-recording of A Gay Song , originally recorded by the band Everyone Involved in 1972 and described as the first gay protest song recorded onto vinyl. Audience members will also be invited to shout-out a song or artist that first spoke to them, creating a collective playlist and conversation about the music that has stayed with us. Your ticket also includes admission to Queer Britain Museum – explore our exhibitions before or after the event. ACCESS Queer Britain Museum has step-free, wheelchair-accessible entry. An accessible, gender-neutral bathroom is available on site. Event timings will be shared here in advance. This event will not include BSL interpretation or live captioning. The event will be photographed for marketing and archive purposes. Ticket link
