Join us for Disturbing the Peace, a poetry reading and open mic series to uplift marginalized voices and fundraise for a better world. Disturbing the Peace borrows its name from James Baldwin’s essay “The Creative Process” in which he calls artists “the incorrigible disturber(s) of the peace.” We see poetry as essential to disrupting the status quo, and we want you to disrupt it with us. Disturbing the Peace is free to attend, but we suggest a minimum $10 donation, with all funds going to Norwood Community Library. Sign up opens at 6:30, reading begins at 7. Come share your poetry and build community! Hive Mind Books is a queer and trans bookstore and coffee shop in Bushwick, Brooklyn. We are located off of the Dekalb Ave (L), Myrtle-Wyckoff (L/M), and Knickerbocker (M) subway stations. Our coffee and tea bar will be open for the duration of this event.
