About

We are back with the fourth edition of La Monocle’s monthly queer film club, created in collaboration with the wonderful Caroline Cassin. Each month, we gather to celebrate queer cinema, build community, and create a welcoming space to meet new people. This month we are going to be showing Jamie Babbit’s 1999 comedy But I’m a Cheerleader. Starring Natasha Lyonne, Clea DuVall, Melanie Lynksey and Ru Paul, the film surrounds Megan, a typical American girl. She excels in school and cheerleading, and she has a handsome football-playing boyfriend. All is ‘normal’ until one day her parents decide to send her to True Directions, a boot camp meant to alter her sexual orientation. Along the way Megan will meet Graham, a rebellious teen lesbian who catches her completely off guard… We’ll open doors at 6:30pm for a relaxed hour of mingling giving you a chance to chat and make friends. Drinks and snacks will be available at The Cinema Museum cafe/bar. The film begins at 7:30pm, followed by an optional, informal continuation of the evening at Betty and Joan’s, just a short walk away. They’ll be open as usual; no reservation or partnership… simply a warm space to carry on conversations.
